A new study suggests that a low-carbon economy will create millions of jobs in the United States and tens of millions of jobs globally. According to the report jointly issued by the Center for American Progress and Global Climate Network, countries that become the dominant player in a particular sector, such as Germany with solar thermal, are poised to generate tens of thousands of additional jobs supporting implementation in other countries.
There are of course several obstacles to achieving this type of job growth. Among the top four obstacles, training is listed third. For each of the eight nations analyzed in the report, the authors conclude: "equipping new workforces with the required skills is of high importance. In among the numerical projections, there are also important arguments to be made about the "quality" of the jobs created.
