Certificate Courses & Workshops

The Clean Energy Institute of GPEKS delivers renewable energy certificate courses either in a face to face (classroom) format workshop or in an e-learning (distance learning) format for Project Feasibility Analysis courses.

Classroom Workshops

We offer a number of workshops in Solar PV, Solar Water and other renewable energy technologies. Some of our workshops are packaged in programs. For more information, visit our Certificate Programs page.

CEPPV1: Solar PV Design and Installation Workshop - Level1

Introduction workshop for residential, commercial, grid-tied and off-grid solar. This course is a pre-requisite to CEPPV2.

CEPPV2: Solar PV Design and Installation Workshop - Level2

Advanced workshop for large-scale commercial or utility-scale PV farms. This course will be offered late 2010 / early 2011

Other Classroom Courses

Other classroom courses offered as part of programs in partnership with Colleges and University are described in our section Certificate Programs

Distance Learning Courses

Delivered via a distance education approach, the certificate courses impart participants with the essential skills and knowledge to conduct a feasibility study that will enable real-world clients to decide whether or not to proceed with a potential renewable energy project. Participants will learn:

  • To analyze the opportunity/risk factors of clean energy projects, including technical, technological, environmental, financial, organizational and regulatory; RETScreen® is a comprehensive decision-making software tool that helps engineers, architects and planners to evaluate the technical and financial viability of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies (RETs) and reduces the transaction costs (in both money and time) associated with identifying and assessing potential projects.
  • To devise a conceptual system design that meets
    project requirements based on the various clean
    energy technologies covered;
  • To adeptly use RETScreen to evaluate the energy production, life-cycle costs and greenhouse gas emissions reduction of a proposed clean energy
    system;
  • To produce project feasibility reports based on a
    case study and two full-scale studies of real-world potential projects.

Each 16-weeks distance e-learning certificate course is
offered in 2 blocks:

  1. Theory (5 weeks) which includes an assignment in planning and conducting of a project feasibility
    analysis based on a case study and the use of RETScreen; and
  2. Two real-world projects (11 weeks).

The course is facilitated by subject matter experts and practitioners. Successful participants will receive a Certificate of Proficiency and go on to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy solutions. Note that the Clean Energy Institute's project feasibility analysis courses do not teach how to install or maintain a renewable energy system.

For course-specific information and cost, request a brochure.

* The introduction module RS101 (first week of each certificate course) is also available as a stand-alone course.

RETScreen enjoys worldwide recognition with over 215,000 users in 222 countries and territories.
